Our Students
There are approximately 185 students attending Viscount Alexander PS this year from the Sandy Hill community, which includes children from the various embassies in our neighbourhood. At Viscount, we encourage our students to be proud of their school, linguistic background, and heritage. They are ambassadors for themselves and others as they represent us during school trips and at sporting events. Our graduates from the English Program go to grade 7 and 8 at York Street Public School and our graduates from the Early French Immersion go to Queen Elizabeth Public School.
Our Staff
Viscount Alexander has 15 teachers on staff, 4 early childhood educators, two educational assistant, a library technician, an office administrator, one office assistant, and two custodians. Our dedicated staff possesses many additional qualifications in Special Education, English as a Second Language, Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education and Computers in Education. Our custodial and office staffs provide valuable support and assistance to ensure the smooth and seamless running of the school.
Our Community
Our school has served this community since 1951. With our new French Immersion program, we can say that our school is now the community school for Sandy Hill. We are partnered with many community members who include the Sandy Hill Community Health Centre, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Kiwanis, and a strong liaison with the Education Program at the University of Ottawa. We are developing a new partnership with the Parent Resource Centre, creating links for school readiness and community activities in our Full Day Kindergarten Programs. Our many community volunteers from ONFE enhance our school’s resources as well. At Viscount we have well over fifty community volunteers. The Viscount Alexander School Council has been active in raising parental awareness of the issues that affect our children in both the short and long term. They are eager to serve the school community and are always receptive to new ideas.
Mission Statement
Viscount Alexander Public School stands for Caring, Commitment and Collaboration.
